Footloose and Bottle Free!

Aside from being on the verge of running, Sweet Pea is now free in another sense.  She is bottle free.  She happily drinks regular milk from a cup now, so all of the bottles found their way to the trash this morning.  Yay!  One week until her 1st Bithday!

What a difference a day makes

The other day when I posted the video of Sweet Pea taking those handful of unsteady steps, I thought I might still have a couple of weeks before she really became a toddler.  After all, she had been taking 1-2 steps here and there for several weeks.

Alas, that was not the case.  Yesterday, she decided that walking was better than crawling.  She is still unsteady and has no navigational ability...she just walks until she bumps into something or falls.  However, she chooses to start out by walking (even if she falls and crawls the rest of the way) to wherever she is going.

So, at this point, I think we officially have a toddler on our hands.

One foot in front of the other

Crawling is still by far the preferred method of transportation for Sweet Pea, but that's slowly beginning to change.

::nom nom::

What a week it's been!

Sweet Pea has learned to crawl. She has gone from wobbly and unsure of herself to confident, determined and fast this week. She has also made huge strides in her sitting ability.

To top off the week, her first tooth started to poke through! Her bottom pearly whites are on their way in. One has broken through and the other is almost there!

CRAWLING!

It's not smooth or refined, but she does it!

Catch that train!

We were very busy this weekend. Mini Me had soccer and a birthday party on Saturday and tons of errands, packing and preparing for Daddy's move on Sunday. But, in between all that, we found time to practice this:

5 months

**Picture to come later**

Name: Sweet Pea (AKA Vidia by Mini Me--Tinkerbell reference)

Age: 5 months

Hobbies: Squealing, chewing on my left foot, trying to lick the dog

Likes: Jumping, rolling, eating pears, squash, oatmeal

Dislikes: When mommy isn't looking at me, eating green beans

Skills: Rolling, putting things/paci in my mouth (except during the hours of 7pm to 7am--that's mommy's job), babbling

Goals: Independent sitting, crawling, more eating, moving to a new house!

Other: We lowered the crib mattress this weekend because Sweet Pea is all over the place in there. She likes her crib.

You know those shrunken heads...

Well, apparently, my kid has one.

Sweet Pea's 4 month appointment was today. (Can you believe it? 4 months already!)

Here are her stats:

Weight: 12 pounds 6oz
Length: 25 1/8 inches

That puts here right around the 20th percentile for weight, 75th for height.

Then comes her head circumference.... She's in the 6th percentile for that. Not 60, not 16...just 6.

Peanut head.

The doctor is happy with her progress and gave us the go ahead to start solids whenever we feel that she is ready.

I am also very happy to report that it seems as if this situation (and possibly other similar situations from the sounds of it) has resulted in some change of procedure at the office.

When the nurse first took us into the exam room and was doing the measurements and standard questions, she reviewed the vaccination record in their computer system and discussed with me which vaccinations Sweet Pea was due for.

When the doctor came in, she reviewed the record in the system and reviewed with me which ones she was due for. Then, when the nurse brought the needles into the room, the nurse and doctor both reviewed the record together and verbally confirmed each shot with what was in the tray. It was reminiscent of the medication checks that I'm accustomed to from my former career.

While I'm still annoyed that she got the extra shot, I'm glad that they have responded by making some changes to protect kids from future errors.

Back to Belly

Little Sister rolled from her back to her belly for the first time. Uh oh! We're in trouble now!

2 Months Old

Little Sister is 2 months old already! And, I finally caught her smiles on camera.

Hey! How'd I do that?

A few weeks ago, Little Sister rolled over. It was a complete fluke, I'm sure.

However, she just rolled from tummy to back in a semi coordinated motion. She was completely on her tummy and pushed herself up and over onto her side before I could grab the camera. But, I caught the second half of her roll:

Here is another attempt a few days later:

And we have...

SMILES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As in real, true smiles! I'll try to catch a pic of it soon.

Chatterbox

How quickly I'm having to post about another milestone!

During the night, after throwing up half her bottle all over daddy's shirt (hey, at least it was formula and not breastmilk that got wasted...), Little Sister was snuggling with me as I comforted her.

She looked at me and and tried to vocalize. Heart=melted! It was really the first time she has made a sound other than crying/grunting. I can't wait for more coo's and her first little giggles. So sweet!

I want that monkey!!!

So, today was the first day that Little Sister really interacted with Mini Me and the world around her.

During one of her still rare awake periods, she was laying on her activity mat. Mini Me was playing with the toys, because, ya know---at almost 3 years old, nothing says 'fun' like a toy meant for an infant. But, then I noticed that Little Sister was staring intently at the monkey dangling nearby. I could tell she was looking at it, rather than just randomly staring into nowhere. Then, she actually tried to reach for it several times.

Now, yes, it looks very sporadic, and I would have thought it was a fluke. But, she continued to do it for quite some time, and has again today.

Awww, our first little milestone. :-) (And, I was actually able to capture it on video!!!!)
