G is for guilty

G is for guilty.

As in, Mommy is feeling guilty for not being super attentive to this blog and keeping everyone updated on the delicious child that we know and love.

I just haven't been feeling the creative vibe lately.

But, here's a recap of what we've been up to the past couple of weeks:

She's had another major speech explosion and besides her crazy huge vocabulary, she is also speaking in short sentences most of the time. She has also gotten very good with her manners. Even her teachers were impressed when I handed her a book and she said, "thank you mommy" without even needing to be prompted.

Mini Me has been having a fantastic time at school. She is making friends and seems to really enjoy interacting with other children now, as opposed to just playing next to them.

She is also still enjoying Gymboree. We switched her into a smaller class, and she already has a really good friend in there that we also meet at open gym times so they can play together. And, yes, it's a slightly older boy....who is potty trained. (As daddy would say: It's the preschool equivalent to driving a car!)

Last weekend, I asked Mini Me what she wanted to do for the day. After a brief pause, she said, "Museum!" So, since she had actually answered the question with a totally appropriate response, off the the museum we went! She of course got SOAKED playing in the bubble room. The trip did teach mom and dad two very important lessons: 1. Never go to the museum on a Saturday, and 2. set up a designated meeting place. More than once, we got separated (not from Mini Me, but from each other) and it took forever running up and down the 3 floors of the museum looking for each other.

Other than that, we've rearranged the furniture to create a better playroom for the kiddos. And, I've decided to just bite the bullet and we are going to make an attempt at potty training tomorrow! Wish us luck!

S is for Surprise!

S is for Surprise!

On Monday, Mini Me and I took our first solo trip to NY. I wasn't sure what to expect, but overall it went very well. But, we are happy to be home. We missed daddy!

W is for Weather.

Last Monday, we had several inches of snow. Mini Me's day of fun looked like this:

By Saturday, it had warm up into the 60's and Mini Me's fun looked more like this:

F is for Fear

F is for Fear.

Recently, Mini Me developed a fear of the dark. Fairly normal for her age and easily fixed with the Tykelight, which has been named "glowy".

However, Mini Me is also developing and discovering new fears on an (almost) daily basis. Her imaginary pet dragon is not scary, but the carwash...now that's a scary place.

Poor Mini Me. (And, poor mommy and daddy because our backs are getting sore holding her everytime she proclaims "scary!" and practically climbs up into our arms.)

S is for stats

S is for stats.

As in Mini Me's two year stats.

Here's the low down of her pedi appointment today:

She is 36.5 inches tall, 27 pounds 2 ounces, and doing very well by all accounts. The pediatrician was very happy with her vocabulary and overall social development. She did refer us to a pediatric orthopedist just to check on Mini Me's left foot which tends to turn in and causes her to trip occasionally. But, she said that in her opinion, she would outgrow it and that everything seemed fine structurally.

ini Me was very brave and didn't even cry on the scale this time. Not sure why she has been so freaked out about it the past few appointments, but we seem to have passed that phase.

Oh, and I was very annoyed that I did not have my camera with me because they had her wear one of those little gowns and it had tigers all over it. It was super cute with her little diapered bum hanging out the back. Too funny!

T is for Two!

T is for Two!

Alas, another year has come and gone. Mini Me is turning 2 this very minute. 2:52 pm

It makes me so sad that two years have gone by so quickly, and I miss putting her in the little baby straight jacket and reading Dr. Seuss' "Oh, the places you'll go" as she fell asleep in my arms.

Mini Me, you are developing into such a smart and beautiful little girl. Daddy and I are so proud of you. We are blessed to be able to watch you grow and explore the world around you. Never lose that adventurous spirit and intense curiosity. We will always love you! Happy Birthday, Mini Me!

P is for Percy...sort of

P is for Percy...sort of

Mini Me had her Dora birthday party this weekend. It was fun and I think she enjoyed it. (More to come on that when I have a chance to upload pictures)

Since she is currently into trains, she got a "Percy" train from the Thomas and Friends collection. Mini Me had a great vocabulary and talks non-stop. Her pronunciation could use a little work.

P is for Percy....but is sounds more like....well, something a 2 year old shouldn't be saying. Let's leave it at that.

D is for Date

D is for Date.

This is not a post I was hoping to write for at least 10 more years, but here I am. (Let's just keep this little post to ourselves, mmkay? 'Cause I'm thinking Daddy won't be so thrilled with this).

Today started, as all weekdays do, at 5:30am. Awesome.

But today, Mini Me was especially cranky and by 7am I made her go back to sleep. Otherwise, we would not have survived the morning. Just wasn't gonna happen. So, at 9am when Mini Me woke up fully rested and in a much better mood (as was mommy) we got dressed and set out for the day.

First stop was the Valentines Day party at the local toy store where they were giving out cookies and doing crafts and story time. That was fun, but just picture a small toy shop in town with 30 small kids, their moms, cookies and toys--in boxes. Total chaos would be an understatement. They do have a few areas with toys to play with, including the ever popular train table.

Mini Me loves trains. However, she's not quite understanding the whole train table etiquette. Basically, she grabs as many trains as she can and holds on to them for dear life while watching the other kids move their trains along the tracks. If one train comes within her reach-swoop- it ends up in her clutches. Sadly, this leads to some protesting as I have to pry the trains from her clammy little hands to give it back to the poor little kid she stole it from.

Luckily, as much as she loves trains and the toy store, she still loves Gymbo more. So, off we went for stop number 2 on our adventure. And, really this is where the cuteness that inspired this post occurred. (Bet you are glad I made you read all that crap about the toy store when it had nothing to do with the original point of the post, huh?)

Today was open play gym, so we just can go in and use the equipment for 90 minutes. Awesome way to burn off all those cookies she just ate at the party. She was playing well with the other kids, many of whom were younger than her by quite a bit (picture the not quite 1 year old barely walking set). She was sharing the toys, giving out hugs and spouting words of encouragement as they tried to climb the ever daunting foam stairs. I was just beaming with pride.

But, it was almost 12 noon, and I was hungry. I figured that Mini Me probably was as well, so I asked her if she was ready to go get lunch. She said, "OK". But, then she did something that we must never speak of to Daddy. She went up to one boy she had been playing with who actually happened to be around her age. She asked him, "Lunch? Lunch with me?". Now, the gymboree teacher, the boys mom, and I all stood there laughing hysterically as Mini Me asked this little boy out for lunch.

Sadly, boy's mom informed Mini Me that they would not be able to join us for lunch today. Phew! But, it was super cute. My little girl is making friends and becoming a social butterfly. I love it, but let's hope the obsession with boys isn't starting this early!
