B is for binkie

B is for binkie.

So, yesterday, I took Mini Me to Babies R Us with me as I bought a ton of little stuff we needed to get for the upcoming arrival of "baby sister". Just random stuff like bottle brushes and binkies.

Um, yeah. That's where the issue is. Mini Me is very uncomfortable having binkies around. When I picked them up in the store, she started yelling, "no, put them back! put them back!"

I have tried to explain that they are for "baby sister" but she still doesn't seem happy about it. She certainly isn't acting likes she wants to use them, so I think she is exhibiting some "I'm a big girl, don't make me use baby stuff" behavior. All of this has to be confusing for the poor child. I mean, we tell her she's a big girl for using the potty so well, and sleeping in her big girl bed. But, at the same time, we have been brought in a crib, bottles and binkies that she associates with babies, without a baby in sight. Ah, the mind of a 2 year old....

B is for baseball

B is for baseball.

Last night, we took Mini Me to see a baseball game. No, it wasn't a major league game, but a little local game. She really has no clue of the difference (to tell you the truth, I couldn't distinguish between AA, AAA or whatever the different designations for minor league ball are either. That's hubby's job.).

But, Mini Me LOVED it. She was so excited to see baseball live. She stood there, along the rail, watching the game for quite a while. She clapped, cheered, and danced. She high-fived the mascot, narrated the game for us, and yelled for the players. Of course, she also had her fill of cotton candy and ice cream.

She lasted through 7 innings, and when hubby and I decided that since it was after 7:15, we would head home, she didn't even fight us. She held our hand and asked if she would see baseball again. And, surprisingly enough, despite having enough sugar in her system to fill a sugar bowl, she came home and went to bed without so much as a hint of resistance.

It was a wonderful summer night. Our next new adventure might be the drive-in.... We'll see.

F is for Furniture!

F is for Furniture!

It's HERE! On Saturday afternoon, I got a phone call that the furniture was in. And, when discussing whether to have it delivered or go get it, they said that they were really slow and could deliver it either Sunday or Monday. Woo Hoo! So, 8:30 Monday morning, and the furniture was here, in the house!!!

Yay! The guy who brought it, was the same man who delivered Mini Me's original crib 2.5 years ago. So, now, thanks to MIL & FIL who were here to help plan/move/disassemble/assemble stuff with me, the furniture is set up in the room. I still have a little decorating to do, but I am very happy to at least be able to do it now!

And, happily enough, Mini Me is now napping in her new big girl bed, and didn't even fuss about the change.

So, here are the preliminary pics. I still have to get a lamp, iron and hang the curtains, put sheets in the crib, move Mini Me's wall letters, and (once this baby is named) make new wall letters. But, I think it's coming together nicely.

E is for Early

E is for Early.

It's too EARLY to be up!

Around 4:30 this morning, Mini Me was in her room, apparently awake, because I woke up to the sounds of her musical toys blasting away over the monitor.

Good times. ::Yawn::

C is for Canada!

C is for Canada!

In preparation for tomorow:

Happy Canada Day!
Here is Mini Me's project:

And, here is mine:

I've tried to get her to say, "I'm Canadian!" but it comes out more like, "I'm candyland". Well, either way, it's sweet.

P is for Pigeons

S is for Strawberries

S is for Strawberries.

On Saturday, we had a break from the sogginess for a few minutes, and took advantage of the almost-sun that we were seeing. We headed down the street to a local farm where we could go and pick strawberries.

After treking through the mud to the fields (why we didn't just take the tractor ride out there, I'll never understand), we chose a row and began picking.

I quickly realized that 2 year olds are not really the best at picking berries. Despite trying to explain to grab from the stem, Mini Me ended up with half a dozen very smushed berries. So, she quickly got relegated to basket duty. Mommy and Daddy picked the berries and handed them to Mini Me to put in the basket. We still had a few that got a little smushed, but not nearly as bad as those first few.

Then, after picking berries, we saw the animals at the farm. Mini me fed the cows and was a bit scared of the big turkey. It was a hit, but I don't know if we're going to get back again before the season is over. Seems that this rain pattern is going to continue for several more days at least.

Oh, and if you are wondering what we did with all of the strawberries...

Mommy made awesome strawberry lemonade. Yum! And, of course, we all ate lots of sliced strawberries.

And, of course, the pictures:

A is for apology

A is for Apology.

I feel the need to apologize for the lack of blogness lately.

See, Mini Me is no longer in school. That means, that the 4 hours a week that I had to myself? Buh-bye! All gone.

So, every time I sit down and pick up the computer, I am faced with, "No, Mommy! Don't touch the 'puter! Not OK!"

Ummm, yeah. That is my lame explanation for the lack of cuteness lately.

But, Hubby and I have decided on a solution. Tuesday nights are Mommies Night Out! Woo Hoo! I envision those nights as sitting somewhere, anywhere, with the laptop updating the blog, checking e-mails, online shopping sprees, and editing/organizing the thousands of photos we have.

Of course, if I was so inclined (read: not pregnant) those nights might include fruity drinks or a trip to the gym instead gorging on Cold Stone. But, at this point, a root canal BY MYSELF sounds almost appealing. Not that I don't LOVE being a stay at home mom, but try spending 24/7 with a 2 year old, and tell me you don't need a break!

Bottom line, starting tomorrow, I shall, at least in theory, be back on track to at least weekly blog updates.

Until then, Happy Summer!

U is for Updates

U is for Updates. Back to our regular format.

So, we've had a few more very successful days of potty training. Mini Me is fairly consistently peeing on the potty independently. She has also pooped on the potty (with a little assistance from me when I noticed her get into her poop stance, I swooped her over to the potty, where she went). We also had one poop accident. But, all in all, things are going really well.

We also ventured out to dinner with her last night. We did put her in a pull-up, because she's not telling us she needs to go at home. She just gets up and goes. At dinner, I noticed her squirming around and asked her if she needed to go. She said yes, so I took her. She did go, but we didn't quite make it in time. She did sit on the potty and finish though. That's very promising. Now I just need her to tell me just a minute or two earlier. But, that will come with practice.

Anyway, she's very proud of herself.

In other news, Mini Me is still very obsessed with Elmo and Sesame Street. It's great in some ways, because of all the children's programming, SS is my favorite. I bought her a SS CD as a reward, but the truth is: I think I wanted it more than she did.

And, no, I have not forgotten to post about our vacation. I'm still working on it. I've just been completely involved with the whole potty training saga. Also, I've been "nesting" like crazy (there will most likely be a post on Mini Me Jr.'s blog about that soon).

Day 4 of Potty Training

Mini Me was up at 5:30am. Grrreeaat....

Took off her diaper and that was that. A couple of minutes later, I find her sitting on the potty saying, "I did it!". Sure enough, she did! Day is off to an awesome start!

Other than that, I'm done with the play-by-play of potty training. She has done well today. We still have a long way to go before we use the phrase "potty trained" to describe her, but I am very proud of her and she is doing well. Even if we have her in pull-ups when we go out, just in case, I am confident that we can be diaper free at home.

So, congrats, Mini Me. You are getting to be such a big girl! Mommy and Daddy are so proud of you!
